Destination Thailand Visa Benefits
Long-Term Stay Flexibility
At 5 years of validity with multiple entries, the DTV gives you far more runway than a standard tourist visa, without locking you into a single continuous stay. Each entry grants a fresh 180-day stamp, and you can extend once per entry for another 180 days at a local immigration office.
Ideal for Digital Nomads
The DTV is Thailand’s answer to a digital nomad visa Thailand searchers are often looking for. It legally permits remote work for a foreign employer or your own overseas business while you’re in Thailand. This is a meaningfully different status from a traditional work permit, which authorizes employment with a Thai company; the DTV authorizes remote work you’re already doing for clients or employers outside Thailand, not work performed for Thai entities.
Lower Cost Versus Other Long-Term Visas
At roughly 10,000 to 12,000 THB for the visa itself, the DTV is considerably more affordable upfront than Thailand’s other major long-term visa options, which typically involve higher government fees or larger asset and investment thresholds.
Family Inclusion
Your legal spouse and unmarried children under 20 are eligible as dependents. Each dependent applies separately for their own DTV Dependent visa, and can only do so once the primary applicant’s visa has been approved.
Common Reasons DTV Visa Applications Get Rejected
- Insufficient or unseasoned funds. The 500,000 THB must be genuinely seasoned in the account for the required period, not deposited right before applying.
- Incorrect document formatting. Bank statements, employer letters, and portfolios that don’t match what a specific embassy expects are one of the most common causes of delay.
- Applying from inside Thailand. The DTV must be filed from outside the country; applications submitted while in Thailand will not be accepted.
- Unsupported income sources. Funds that can’t be clearly traced to acceptable accounts, such as cryptocurrency balances or investment portfolios, are routinely rejected.
- Criminal or immigration history. A visa overstay, blacklist flag, or relevant criminal record can derail an otherwise qualified application.
Thailand DTV Visa Requirements
One of Asia's easiest long-term visas to obtain.
- Cost: government fee of approximately 12,000 THB (about 400 USD)
- Age 20 or older
- Evidence of at least 500,000 THB (approximately 17,000 USD) maintained in your bank account for a minimum of 3 months prior to application
- Terms vary by your home country’s Royal Thai Embassy
Core Eligibility Criteria

- Financial proof meeting the 500,000 THB rule
- An acceptable employment type: remote employee, freelancer, or business owner
Financial Proof Rules Explained

- Acceptable assets are standard bank accounts; cryptocurrency and most investment holdings are excluded
Legal and Background Requirements
- No criminal record
- No immigration blacklist or overstay issues
- A clean prior visa history
Application Rules You Must Know
- Must apply from outside Thailand
- Requirements can vary by embassy or consulate
- A specific set of required documents applies to your category, covered below
Thailand DTV Visa Requirements: 2026 Document Checklist
Core Documents (Required for All Applicants)
- Passport with at least six months’ validity remaining and at least one blank visa page
- A recent passport-style photo taken within the last six months
- Proof of current residence or legal stay in the country where you are applying, such as a visa stamp, residence card, or local ID
- Evidence of funds showing at least 500,000 THB, or the equivalent, in a bank account, such as recent bank statements. Sponsorship from a family member or employer is typically acceptable if properly documented.
- Receipt or confirmation of DTV visa fee payment, around 10,000 THB, though the exact amount may differ by mission
Additional Documents for Workcation Applicants
For employees:
- Employment contract or letter confirming your position with a foreign employer
- Employer letter stating that you are allowed to work remotely and confirming your salary
- Optional but helpful: recent payslips or personal tax filings to support your income history
For business owners:
- Company registration documents or business license from your home country
- Recent corporate tax returns or financial statements
- A short cover letter describing your business model, how you earn revenue, and how your work is performed remotely
For freelancers:
- A professional portfolio showing ongoing work, such as recent invoices, client contracts, or links to active profiles on professional platforms
Additional Documents for Thai Soft Power Activities
- Official confirmation letter or booking from the organization hosting your activity (Muay Thai camp, Thai cooking school, clinic, training center, and similar)
- Proof that the host is a legally registered business or institution, such as a registration certificate or operating license
- Documents showing the planned duration of the activity, especially for courses or programs running several months
Additional Documents for Spouses and Dependents
- Documents proving the relationship to the primary DTV applicant, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or adoption order
- Copy of the main DTV holder’s passport and DTV visa or e-Visa approval, where applicable
Destination Thailand Visa Financial Proof Guide
The 500,000 THB financial requirement is one of the most common points of confusion for DTV applicants. Understanding which funds qualify, and how they must be shown, is essential to avoid delays or refusals.
- Applicants must demonstrate at least 500,000 THB, or the equivalent, in liquid funds. The money doesn’t need to be in Thai baht, but the total must meet the threshold based on the statement date’s exchange rate.
- Acceptable funds generally include standard bank accounts: savings, current or checking accounts, and fixed deposits that can be accessed without complex restrictions.
- Funds that are often not accepted include cryptocurrency balances, stock or investment portfolios, retirement or pension accounts, and unused credit limits.
- Many embassies expect recent bank statements covering several months, and some require statements issued very close to the application date, in some cases within a few weeks.
- Because practices differ by embassy or consulate, our team reviews each client’s financial documents against the specific mission’s current policy before submission.

I received a LTR visa thanks to Thitsana’s efforts at Baan Thai. The process went as smoothly as I could have hoped and I am very happy with Baan Thai’s services.
I received a LTR visa thanks to Thitsana’s efforts at Baan Thai. I made an abortive attempt to apply on my own but found the official instructions often confusing or ambiguous and didn’t relish an inevitable long back-and-forth with the Bureau of Investment. Thitsana knew exactly what documents I needed and didn’t need, and was able to suggest substitutes (that actually worked!) for documents I didn’t have. The process went as smoothly as I could have hoped and I am very happy with Baan Thai’s services. I would recommend them without reservation.
A wonderful, easy experience and efficient friendly service from Thitsana. Highly recommend their service and support for ease of getting my LTR VISA. Thank you Thitsana for all your help, advice and support.
