Now, as you may know, the window to apply for PR in 2024 never opened and no one was able to submit an application.

This was disappointing for a lot of folks who contacted us last year, as there are only two ways to truly immigrate to Thailand. Permanent residency and citizenship, and PR is also a gateway for many to citizenship. It also allows you to make Thailand home with Outregard to other circumstances such as remaining employed by a Thai company.

Now I’m going to cover the basic requirements in just a moment, but here’s our latest understanding about the PR process in 2025. We’re being assured that the PR application window will open this year. Now that the Prime Minister’s Cabinet is settled in. We believe that the window will open in the fall, and you should start looking for announcements in early October.

We anticipate increased demand for permanent residency applications this year. And as a result, the Immigration Office has indicated that they will begin assessing candidate qualifications this spring and summer. So submitting your qualifications. early will help them manage the increased workload and give you the opportunity to discuss your background with the officers who will be deciding on your eligibility.

So let’s cover the basics. First, you’re going to need to be holding either a non B visa, which is a work visa, or a non O dependent visa, frequently called a marriage visa. Second, you’re required to extend your same category of visa for three consecutive years without any break. If, for instance, you change jobs and there was even a day or two between the cancellation of your prior non V and receiving your new non V visa, this will break the required three year tenure.
Third, you’re going to need to show earnings in the kingdom of 80, 000 to 100, 000 Thai Baht per month during the prior two year period. Fourth, you’re gonna need to be able to speak conversational Thai. Immigration officers may speak with you. in Thai to test your language proficiency even before accepting your application.

Also, you’re going to have a Thai language interview with several ministries about four months after your PR application is accepted. At bottom, if Thailand is home and you want to live here regardless of changing circumstances, you may want to consider PR. Now it does take time and expense.

Our clients who applied in December of 2022 all received their PR certificates this past December, but their experience is similar to the time and expense Thai nationals experience when becoming permanent residents of, say, the United States.
